What Kind Of Inline Skates Should I Buy?
The type of skating you want to do will determine what type of inline skates you should buy. There are many different models of skates and an equal number of skate manufacturers that you can choose from. While brands, companies and the quality of your skates do play a role when you’re deciding what type of inline skates should I buy, it really has a lot more to do with the type of skating you will be doing.
Lets get one thing right out of the way here. If you’re not sure what type of skating you’re going to be doing, you should always go for recreational skates. Recreational
skates are your average skates. You can pick them up at any sporting good section in most major department stores, as they are not specialized in any way. These skates are great if you plan on doing a variety of skating, just for fun. You may do some skating with friends at a park or skate through some trails for a bit of exercise.
If you’re after a real workout, for fitness and for speed, then you’ll want special fitness or speed inline skates. Usually fitness skates have 5 wheels instead of 4. They can be used for fun too, but the real purpose of these skates is to get you going really fast over very long distances. Because of the longer frames and extra wheels, you’ll have increased stability and speed. The ankle cuffs are also usually lower (or not there at all) so you’ll want to be sure you build up some of the strength in your ankles before you try this style of skating.
If you’re a well season inline skater and love to do some jumps and tricks then aggressive skates are for you. These skates are all about being able to do big jumps, ride down stairs, grinds, rail slides and much more. Aggressive skates are solid, stable, and can be pretty heavy for a good pair. You’ll also find that as a result of the type of skating you do, there are often replacement parts that you can buy and replace on your skates due to the wear and tear of the type of skating you’ll be doing with aggressive inline skates. We wouldn’t recommend these skates for just recreational use, because they are heavier, and if you’re just starting out you’ll want to have a light pair.
When you’re asking yourself the question of what kind of inline skates should I buy take a little bit of time to really think about the type of skating you’re going to be doing. You may want to start with just a regular pair, for recreational and fun use. As you get more practice and find that you’re ready for a bit more of a challenge, you can always trade in this pair for one of the other types of inline skates. But more than what type of skates should I buy, you should think about all of the great exercise you’re going to get with any inline skates. You’ll keep fit, and have a great time doing it too.
